UVITA OF OSA AND MARINO BALLENA NATIONAL PARK

Uvita is a small community in the south of Costa Rica, with a charming atmosphere and its beach with cinnamon sand presents pleasant conditions for swimming. It has everything necessary to be a meeting point between local people, tourists, naturists and also surfers, as it blends the beauty of nature, the sea and modern comforts without disturbing the environment. Also, it is located very close to the Marino Ballena National Park.

This park has a marine extension of 5,375 ha and a land area of 110 ha. Within its protected terrestrial areas it has a series of beaches of special beauty, among them can be mentioned, Playa Ballena, Bahía Uvita Beach, and Piñuela Beach.

Marino Ballena migrates a large variety of marine mammals, including the beautiful humpback whales, which travel from the cold northern hemisphere (December to March) and the southern hemisphere (July to October) to Costa Rica, to have their Breeding or mating, due to its warm waters. The park is also well known for its "whale tail" or "Tómbolo". A geological formation, product of the deposition of sands on the ridge of rocks that unite the head of the Tómbolo with the coast, which from the top gives it form of "Cola de Ballena", and causes interest in the investigators and visitors.

This small town has art and craft stalls, different dining options and renowned beaches, also located at the entrance of Manuel Antonio National Park This park is mainly dedicated to conservation, research, ecological tourism and environmental education. It has approximately 4901 acres of protected land and 135,907 acres of marine extension, fully protected, so in 2011 Forbes magazine included it in the list of the 12 most beautiful parks in the world.

This magical place where the sky meets the sea in its maximum expression of calm and relaxation, counts on one of the most impressive landscapes of Costa Rica, with beaches of white sands and lush flora and fauna amidst great mountains and the forest Tropical humid. Bahía Drake (Drake Bay)

Drake Bay is a small bay on the north side of the Osa Peninsula. For long time it was accessible only by sea, this is the reason it remains a tropical lowland forest, mostly virgin. The main town of Drake Bay is Agujitas, which lies about 12 miles south and has a population of about 1000 residents.

In this bay there are miles and miles of coast with rocky boulders and sandy coves, which extend from Agujitas to the limit of Corcovado National Park. Along this stretch of beach are some of the most remote and spectacular ecological hotels in Costa Rica.

The bay is not on the established route. It has a small airport, Drake Bay Airport, for local flights from San Jose. The Sierpe River boat service and air transport connect Drake Bay with the rest of the world during the rainy season

CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK

Corcovado National Park, located on the Osa Peninsula, on the southwest coast of the Pacific Ocean, is one of the two most important peninsulas in Costa Rica. The park is the largest protected area in Costa Rica and according to the National Geographic is the most biologically active area in the world, one of the most biodiverse places on the planet.

In CORCOVADO we find a large number of tropical habitats, including the main forest, highland forest, cloud forest, floodplains and marshes. It also has a large diversity of species of trees, important populations of Jaguars, anteaters, tapirs, deer, felines, spiders, monkeys and an extravagant variety of birds, freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians and other tropical animals. There are 2 main trails (one that runs along the coast, and one to the interior) and 4 ranger stations. To walk in the park is recommended a good physical condition, to have 2 or 3 days, to plan in advance the routes, and of course, a lot of precaution.
